Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf

7 reasons why mom is really amazing

7 reasons why mom is really amazing

Sometimes you have to lose something to realize how important it is. When living with my mom, I never pay so much attention to what mommy is doing for the family. But now I am living by myself and am so far away from home, I start realizing how great my mommy is!

1. Mom is like a secretary
There are many things to handle when you live abroad alone, you have to remember to pay the rent, bills for electricity, water, internet, phone…Do everything by yourself, in case you forget one little thing…Ohlalaaaa!

2. Mommy is like “Hercules”
Wanna drink milk? Eat some oranges? If there’s no toilet paper at home, no shampoo…Then go to the supermarket and buy them yourself, and things can be heavy! The worst is I don’t have an elevator in my building…

3. Mommy is like a chef
Whatever yummy dishes I want to eat when I was living with my parents, probably I just need to tell my mom and I will get it soon! But living abroad means unless you know how to cook the dish and can get all the ingredients, you ain’t having that delicious food that you like! Some people may say, then just go to the restaurant! But if I go to a Chinese restaurant, maybe the food I cook tastes more genuine and tasty!

4. Mommy is like a doctor
When I was sick back at home, my mom would take care of me. She would prepare food and drinks that would help me to recover faster! Now?! It’s time to take care of myself!

5. Mommy is like a cleaning lady
Germany is less polluted than Hong Kong. Theoretically, my home in Germany should be less dusty, but it’s not true…I still have to clean all the time! Sometimes it feels too tired after going back home, but still have to do laundry, if not, I have no clean clothes to wear!

6. Mommy is like a financial planner
Buying food, paying for rent and bills…everything costs and everything is important! I didn’t realize these things can add up to cost so much until I have to buy them myself! In the past, feel like collecting supermarket stamps or points or buy discounted items are something that only housewives will do! But now living alone, I started doing these too!

7. Mommy is like an encyclopedia
Not sure how to cook rice without a rice cooker? The pot is burnt accidentally and doesn’t know how to clean it? Other than Google, guess only mommy can tell you the answer right away!

Long story short, mom is great and amazing! It’s not easy to treasure it when we take her for granted, but she has been doing so much for the family and deserves all our love and respect whenever we can.

risottoreisA kind of Risotto rice I found in Germany! Not the most quality one, but I also didn’t pay much for it!

工具 equipment :

大煎Pan Saucepan
煲 Pot

步驟 procedure :

1. Chopped he onion to small pieces. Add Olive oil to the saucepan, turn up the heat until the oil is hot, turn it to medium-small fire and add onion, fry till soften
2. At the same time, prepare the chicken stock in the pot, heat it up slowly
3. When the onion is softened, fry the chicken till just ready, then take the chicken out (onion can leave in the saucepan)
4. Add the mixed vegetables into the saucepan, add a little bit of water till the vegetables just ready. Shred the chicken with fork and knife, put aside for later
5. By this time, chicken stock should be boiling. When the mixed vegetables are ready, put the Arborio rice into the saucepan, and mix them
6. If you would like to add white wine, now it’s the time, and mix well
7. Keep it at medium fire, when the liquid in the pan almost dries up, add chicken stock till just cover the rice, mix well
8. Add the shredded chicken. When there’s not much liquid in the saucepan, add chicken stock and mix
9. Repeat the procedure until Arborio is soft and ready to eat, taste it, if it’s not salty enough, add salt
10. Add Black pepper and mix, turn off the fire
11. Finish off by mixing with butter and Parmesan Cheese, ready to serve!

心得 little tips :

Use a wooden spatula to cook risotto
Usually it’s easy to find a chicken stock cube or stock powder from the supermarket, just add to hot water and that’s it
White wine will make the risotto tastes more sweet, but will turn sour if there’s too much
The butter and Parmesan cheese is the soul of the Risotto, enjoy the meal right after as it tastes the best

5 questions trying to piss off someone from Hong Kong

When going abroad, sometimes we have to introduce ourselves. It’s pretty common to tell people where we come from after telling our names, and sometimes it takes me sooo much time to explain and clarify when people asked me the following questions!

1. You are Chinese, why don’t you tell people you are from China?

Identity. Undoubtedly, most of our ancestors are Chinese, and politically and officially speaking, Hong Kong returned to China. So if you insist I should tell you I am from China instead of Hong Kong, I will be kinda speechless. But, do you know that we have our own government, currency, law, education system and even our own team in the Olympic Games. When there are so much difference in education background and culture, if you insist, I may feel you are so ignorant in the bottom of my heart. And seriously, will an American-born-Chinese tell people he’s from China?

2. Is Hong Kong in Japan?

Well, I don’t know why people have this perception. In fact, it took us 4 hours to take a plane to go to Tokyo from Hong Kong.

3. Do you know how to play Kung Fu?

Maybe the impacts of Bruce Lee and Jacky Chan are too influential, or maybe some people heard that Korean kids will learn Taekwondo and thought Asians kids will do the same. So I will usually tell my foreign new friends that ‘yes, we all learn it since we were really young! Do you believe I can kill you with only one finger?’

4. You can use Facebook? (With a SHOCKING face!)

You are right! I HAVE FACEBOOK! There are actually 4 million Facebook accounts from Hong Kong, it’s 75% of all the internet users.

5. You are so picky when it comes to food, aren’t you guys eat everything?

In Hong Kong, the meat that we mainly eat are pork, beef, chicken, fish and seafood. Please don’t misunderstand that we love eating all kinds of weird animals!

If you have some other suggestions or comments, please share! (:
